SPECIAL REPORT:
10 Things to Look For in a Kids Martial Arts Program
This free resource can help you discover important aspects of starting a Self Defense Program that you may never have considered.
I) Safety An important aspect of a Kids Martial Arts Program is safety. From the training in class, to the practice sessions that are encouraged at home, we know the welfare of your children is of utmost importance. We realize your children are your highest priority. We want to teach them the safest way to train. Statistically, Martial Arts is one of the safest activities children can participate in.
II) Beginning Stages The Kids Martial Arts program you choose must give new students a chance to try out the program. Our kids White and Yellow Belt class is specifically designed for beginner students age 6-12. In this class all students are taught basic and fundamental kicks, blocks, and punches which are an essential foundation to excel in TaeKwonDo.
III) Fitness While searching for a great Martial Arts program, notice how much activity is going on in class. The kids should be learning detailed technique while having fun. You will notice at our academy, kids will be having a blast while working through drills that constantly challenge them to use muscles that may not be triggered in other activities.
IV) Understanding Children Our Instructors understand that children and adults do not learn the same way. While the curriculum is similar, the approach should be different. Be aware that not all programs make this separation. We have been working with students and instructors since 1992. Over these many years of training, we have developed a system that works.
V) Respect is vital in Martial Arts Training. When you visit our Academy, you will notice an atmosphere of respect in all of our staff. The instructors treat the students with respect and dignity. The students respect the instructors because they want to emulate the instructor and the higher ranking students.
VI) Structured Curriculum Expect an Academy to have a curriculum that focuses on the art of TaeKwonDo while also using a modern approach. At TaeKwonDo Plus, we use a state of the art, documented curriculum while adhering to the ancient principles practiced by Martial Artists for centuries. Our curriculum is designed to be delivered in 8 week cycles with specific skill sets being the focus of each week. Promotional testings are held at the end of each cycle for students to experience the satisfaction of achieving a short term goal and for parents to enjoy watching their children progress.
VII) Great Facility When you are considering registering your child for Martial Arts, notice the cleanliness, and upkeep of the facility. We ask our staff to walk through our locations periodically to ensure that things are in clean, working order. We work hard to ensure your work out is safe, fun, and clean. We realize it is a “gym”, but it doesn’t need to have a “warehouse” feel.
VIII) A Friendly Atmosphere #9 on the list can make all the difference in your child’s Martial Arts Career. A friendly staff and members can keep them motivated to continually reach for more goals. Ideally, the other students should welcome them to the group. Notice how they speak to each other. Do the instructors recognize a new student? At TaeKwonDo Plus, we have chosen this career because we love what we do and we believe it can positively impact our society. When you come in for a Trial Class, you will see many smiles.
IX) Knowledgeable Instructors The Instructors you trust your child to spend hours per week with should be well trained. They should attend classes throughout the year that help them to stay fresh on the curriculum and techniques they are teaching. They should be educated in not only how to do martial arts, but also in how to teach and motivate students of all ages and ability levels. Our Instructors are monitored regularly to ensure they are knowledgeable, professional, safe, and motivating.
X) Fun! If kids are going to stick with anything, it has to be fun. We’ve been working with children in martial arts for over 20 years. In that span of time, we’ve developed multiple drills and activities that help kids learn, while staying focused and having fun. From our Tiger Cubs Program for 4 & 5 year olds, to our Kids all the way through our Adult program, we keep the students moving and learning. You will see them smiling and having a blast while developing life skills and physical techniques that will help them in every aspect of their lives. In fact, you will see many adults in our program who started out as children.
